Foretype predicts the next words or line while you type in Mac text fields. It runs a language model on your own computer, so the draft in your email, document, or chat does not need a cloud round trip.

A writing tool tied to one editor helps in that editor. Foretype follows the macOS text fields exposed through Accessibility, so it can suggest a continuation in mail, chat, browsers, notes, and many code editors. Secure or custom fields that macOS does not expose may not support suggestions.
Foretype can follow the language already on the page rather than making you switch a picker. The current app supports more than 40 languages. You can also change its behavior per app and set your own writing instructions.
Predictions run locally. After the initial model download, the completion itself works offline. That matters when you write private material, have a poor connection, or simply want the suggestion to arrive without a network request.
Foretype offers Compact, Balanced, and Smart model options. Pick the one that fits your Mac, or bring a compatible GGUF model. The initial model download needs a connection.
A ghost suggestion appears next to your text. It is a proposal, not an automatic rewrite: you stay in control of what enters the document.
Press Tab for the next word or ⌥Tab for the full suggestion. Keep typing to refine it, or open Show Suggestions for alternatives. You can rebind shortcuts in settings.
Foretype currently ships for macOS 14 and newer. It works best on Apple Silicon; Intel Macs can run it more slowly. Compact needs at least 8 GB of memory, while Balanced and Smart benefit from 16 GB or more.
