How is this different from the OS's built-in autocomplete?

Built-in autocomplete suggests single words from a fixed dictionary. Foretype runs a language model on your machine and predicts phrases that fit the sentence you're writing in supported text fields.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Writing suggestions run offline after the initial model download. Licence checks and optional app updates use the network when available.

Which apps does it work in?

Supported writing fields in mail, chat, browsers, editors, notes, and more. You can disable Foretype per app from Settings → App Settings. Windows coverage varies by editor; see its tested scope.

What languages are supported?

The macOS release supports 40+ languages, including English, Albanian, Spanish, French, German, and more. Foretype follows the language you're typing in. Windows uses the same local model family, but language quality is still being checked there.

Does it learn from my writing?

On Mac, optionally. Foretype learns words you type often and phrasing from writing you did yourself. You can review and delete learned words in Settings → Personalization; they stay on your Mac. This learning feature is not yet available on Windows.

Hardware requirements?

macOS 14+ is the stable release. Windows needs Windows 10 22H2 or 11 on x64, or Windows 11 on ARM64. Allow 8 GB RAM for Compact or 16 GB for Balanced, plus several gigabytes of disk for the model. Linux is still in testing.

What is available on Windows and Linux?

Windows is available for Windows 10 22H2 and 11 x64 PCs, plus Windows 11 ARM64 PCs. Its installer is unsigned and some features and editors are still in testing. Linux has no public download yet.

What about privacy?

Writing and inference stay on your device. Model downloads, licence checks, and app updates use the network; Foretype does not send your writing. Anonymous usage statistics are off by default on Mac. See the privacy policy for details.

Pricing?

The Mac release has a 30-day Plus trial, then a free allowance of 200 accepted completions a day. Plus is $3/month for one Mac; Pro is $6/month for up to three. Windows has its own in-app trial and free tier, but its paid feature coverage is still in progress.
