Overview

Foretype is an autocomplete application for Mac and Windows. The language model that predicts your next words runs on your device, and what you type is not sent to a model service.

Data We Do Not Collect

• Your keystrokes or typed text (all predictions are computed locally)
• The suggestions you accept or reject
• Screen contents, personal files, or documents
• Any record of what you write, in any app

Data We May Collect

When you buy a Plus or Pro subscription directly from our website, payment is processed by Stripe. We receive:

• Purchase information: your email address, transaction ID, and plan type

When you activate a licence in a directly downloaded edition, our licensing server stores the minimum needed to enforce your plan's device limit:

• Your licence key and the email tied to it
• A device identifier (your Mac's hardware UUID or a Windows device identity) and device name, so we can count activations within your plan's device limit and let you free up a seat

In the directly downloaded Mac edition, enabling Share anonymous usage stats allows crash reports when reporting is configured. These contain crash stacks, with identifying fields removed, rather than app-launch analytics or your writing. You can disable reporting in Settings.

Mac App Store Edition

Apple processes subscriptions purchased inside the Mac App Store edition through your Apple Account. Foretype uses Apple's verified purchase information on your Mac to unlock your plan and restore purchases. This edition does not send purchase information, licence keys, device identifiers, writing, or diagnostics to our servers, and it does not use our licence activation service.

Models, settings, and writing used for local personalization remain in the app's local storage. You can delete local personalization data in the app. Model downloads make ordinary network requests to our download service; the downloaded model runs on your Mac. Apple handles App Store payment, subscription management, and updates under Apple's Privacy Policy.

Website Ad Measurement

If you arrive from a Google ad, the website asks whether you want to allow Google Ads measurement. The Google tag loads only after you choose Allow. It can store an ad click identifier and report a Foretype download-link click to Google. It never receives text typed in the app. You can decline without affecting the download, or change your choice from the landing page footer.

The choice is saved in your browser for 30 days. Google may process the ad click and conversion under its Privacy Policy. The site does not send ad measurement data to Google when you decline or before you choose.

On-Device Processing

All AI models used by Foretype run locally on your computer. Foretype does not transmit the text you write or its generated suggestions. An internet connection is used for model downloads and updates. Direct editions also use it for licence activation and validation, and the direct Mac edition may use it for enabled crash reporting. The Mac App Store edition uses Apple for purchases, restore, and updates.

Platform Access

• Mac Accessibility: required, so Foretype can read the caret position and insert accepted suggestions.
• Mac Screen Recording: optional, for local screen context and OCR compatibility in editors that do not expose readable text. Captured text is used locally and never transmitted.
• Windows input access: Foretype observes typing in the focused supported writing field and inserts accepted suggestions through Windows APIs. It excludes password fields. Windows does not show a macOS-style Accessibility prompt.

Mac permissions can be revoked in System Settings. On Windows, pause or quit Foretype from its notification-area icon.

Third Parties

We do not sell your text or licence data. Direct sales use Stripe and a transactional email provider to deliver licence keys. Mac App Store subscriptions use Apple. Google receives website ad measurement data only after your separate choice above.

Your Choices

In direct editions, you can remove this device's activation from Settings → License on Mac or Settings → License & Plan on Windows, which removes its device identifier from our licensing server. To request deletion of direct purchase and licence data, email us. In the Mac App Store edition, manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple Account and use Restore Purchases to recover eligible purchases.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or this page.
